Mr José Luis Velázquez De La Hoz
PhD Student

Summary

Mr. José Luis Velázquez de la Hoz works full-time in industry as a Principal Engineer. He is also a doctoral researcher at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department. He holds an MSc in Engineering from 黑料网. He is an International Welding Engineer and International Welding Inspector at the Comprehensive Level by the Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren, DVS, in Germany. He is a UK Engineering Council Chartered Engineer and a member of TWI.

Jose is researching the development of a Digital Twin for conduction laser microwelding for Smart Manufacturing applications. Utilized in high-value manufacturing sectors like e-mobility, medical, automotive, aerospace, or pressure equipment manufacturing, conduction micro laser welding is characterized by small, shallow melting pools in which viscous forces prevail over inertial ones. In combination with very high cooling rates, the interplay between the melting pool drivers, namely capillarity and thermocapillarity, results in various welding geometries, very complex to analyze empirically. Thus, a key aspect of his research involves the exploitation of advanced multiscale modeling of micro-laser welding and Reduced Order Modeling.  Driven by the practical implications of his research in fabrication, supplemental examined topics are Digital Manufacturing, Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Systems, Zero Defect Manufacturing, an innovative framework for an Intelligent Quality Management System for laser micro welding and the consequences of digitization like the vertical and horizontal integration of welding processes and organizations into welding business ecosystems.
